Bismillah,
When being given advice about life, often we're told to expect things to go wrong. That it is part and parcel of life, that we will have our ups and we'll have our downs. Even though we're told this time and again, it's not simple nor is it ever really that easy. Life is difficult.
As Muslims, we understand that there are two parts to this world, the seen world and the unseen world. What we see is just a fraction of what really is in existence and what we see is just a fraction of time and space in respect to the whole picture. Meaning, we are only able to understand a small portion of reality based on our senses, and there is more to our situation than we understand.
Allah(swt) showed this to us in the Quran through Musa(as) by having him spend time with Khidr(as). That what we perceive is just a pixel in a much greater picture. If we truly understood the complete reality, our understanding and reaction might be different. If we get caught up in the moment, we may let the opportunity to progress pass us by.
But what do we do? Every difficulty that comes by, we let the situation take a hold of us, and the less practicing or closer to Allah(swt) we are, the more we are consumed by the situation. So our decisions and our reactions are very focused on the situation with little or no considering of Allah(swt).
We will go through tough times, we will suffer and often feel abandoned and alone, but that is the time to turn to Allah(swt) and realize that he knows best because he knows the entire situation.
Yusuf(as) could have easily focused on all of his hardships because of his brothers betraying him, but instead understood the reality of the complete picture. The very fulfillment of his dream we're told of at the beginning. Because of Yusuf(as) not only did entire nations benefit, but we're still benefiting through the lessons of his life.
Musa(as) had nothing, not a roof over his head, nor did he know where his next meal would come from when he reached Midian, but he turned to Allah(swt). Allah(swt) didn't just give him food, he gave him a job, a home and a family and ultimately with Allah(swt)'s help freed his people from Pharaoh.
We should trust Allah(swt) and not let Shaytan consume us in destitution. We should turn to Allah(swt) and say "Allah is fully sufficient for us, and the best One in whom to trust.”(Surah Al-Imran 3:173) and embrace the opportunity to get close to our Lord
