Salam all,
I was discussing the current situation of the world and particularly the middle east with a rather religious friend of mine. Although I consider myself a Muslim, I'm not exactly as practicing as he is and will admit I have gaps in my knowledge when it comes to the end times.
I am of the opinion that even though the end times will happen, I don't think things have culminated to that point just yet. I think it's a bit arrogant to assume the end times will happen in the near future. It feels similar to how scholars in Baghdad attributed the Gog and Magog prophecy to the Mongols when they completely obliterated Baghdad. But we know they aren't such otherwise we would be in a post end times world.
I think most of the conflict in the world currently is ultimately driven by economic pressure and greed. I don't think the current non muslim powers (like the 'west') are as focused on destroying Islam as they are about self preservation economic wise. Religion is just an afterthought to everybody right now and not the end goal.
My friend thinks otherwise, and mentions a particular hadith to back up his stance. Essentially this hadith mentions that there will be a war in Baghdad, then the region of syria, then yemen. It sounds pretty much like what's happening right now, but I couldn't find a hadith with such wordings online. He also talked about the Muslim countries led by muhammad bin salman forming the common army to combat terrorism (and the drying of the euphrates, if that's still happening, as well as the battle of Hind) as other signs that we are headed to confrontation within the next decade or so.
I'm still skeptical about that claim. But if any of you can verify, does the hadith of the 3 wars exist, and is it sahih?
Wsalam
