Umm al-muʼminīn ʻĀʼishah (رضي الله عنها) said, "Indeed, makārim al-akhlāq (excellent character) lies in ten things:

1. Truthfulness in speech,
2. sincere striving to be obedient to Allah,
3. giving the beggar,
4. repaying favors,
5. keeping ties,
6. rendering back trusts,
7. being good to one’s neighbor,
8. being good to one’s companion,
9. honoring the guest,
10. and the head of all of them is al-ḥayāʼ."

2. وصدق البأس في طاعة الله،
3. وإعطاء السائل،
4. ومكافأة الصنيع،
5. وصلة الرحم،
