I posted a couple days ago asking for advice about my first visit to a masjid, and I got loads of wonderful advice! Today, my brother and I finally went to a masjid and listened to the khutbah and prayed Jumuah!! As we walked in, we were instantly greeted by a sheikh named Hamza. My first time giving the salam greeting ๐! He shook our hands and sat with us for a while to tell us a little about the masjid and to ask about where we were from, how we found Islam, when we converted, if we'd studied on our own, etc. I told him I was enrolled in a couple seekers hub classes and he told me he's friends with Faraz Rabbani! SubhanaAllah. And many brothers came by and shook our hands and greeted us. This was all during the first khutbah which was in Arabic.
When the English khutbah started, Hamza led us to the prayer room and we listened to the khutbah, then prayed. The khutbah was about equality and it was beautiful! And I teared up a little during the prayer... especially when everyone said ameen. It was incredible.
The longer I was there, the more I felt a sense of belonging. I didn't ever want to leave. ๐
I'd never met any of these people before, yet I was instantly their brother. They were happy to see my brother and I, smiling, introducing themselves, asking us questions. SubhanaAllah I felt more welcome there than I ever have anywhere else.
Sheikh Hamza teaches a class Saturday that we might go to tomorrow. My bro works at night, so he might not be able to stay up "late" two days in a row. (He's currently looking for a day job for anyone wondering)
Alhamdulillah. I feel great to have gone and I'm looking forward to going many more times inshaAllah!
