A builder I used a while ago is helping Syrian refugees who were relocated to Stornoway by building the first mosque on the Isle of Lewis.
He wants to try and get the Mosque up and running before Ramadhan so that the Muslims there have somewhere to pray Taraweeh.
The building chosen for the mosque is a derelict and abandoned building and planning permission has been accepted.
I have lots of videos and images from him for the project which I have uploaded to Imgur for your perusal - Some of the videos I couldn't upload because of a 30-second limit, but if you want to see them let me know and I'll figure out a way to do it.
He's trying to raise £50,000, for the Mosque and is covering a lot of the costs himself - the money will help with materials required. At the time of writing this, he has raised £31,500 and is very close to the goal. MashAllah, we have over 50,000 Brothers and Sisters subscribed to this subreddit. A mere £0.40 each would help to achieve the required goal.
The Church on the island is massively against this Mosque even though there are no minarets or other features intended to be built. It will look like a normal building from the outside. The local residents are all happy for the Mosque to be built, however, the Church seems to maintain it's stance (links below).
