Salaam, everyone. This post is dedicated toward countering the "No True Scotsman" fallacy. I am pretty sure that alot of you know what this is, but for those who don't know, the fallacy is like this:
"A true scotsman would have three goats instead of two"
"But Edvin has two goats, but he was born in Scotland"
"Edvin is no true scotsman"
That's how the fallacy goes. The people who hate Islam use this alot when we say that those terrorists aren't true Muslim, and they say that these terrorists are Muslims because they claim to be.
When someone says this, I counter it by saying:
"Listen, I do not know what is in their hearts. Only Allah knows. But even if they do believe in Allah, that still doesn't counter my argument. Why? Because Iblees also believes in Allah, yet he is called a disbeliever. Why? Because his actions are unIslamic. Shaytan (may Allah curse him) knows and believes that Allah exists, yet he is called a disbeliever because of his actions.
The Quran says in 25:63 "And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say "peace" " Do you see how it says what I said? This very verse says that a true Muslim walks upon the earth easily and speaks words of peace to the foolish. (bonus points if you add "such as yourself" /s) If even the Quran says who is and who is not a Muslim, then who are YOU to say they are? How can you call someone a Muslim if he disobeys the Quran and takes pride in it, instead of regret and repent?
A Muslim is someone who submits and surrenders to Allah and obeys Him till the end of their life. So let's say for example, there's a man called Bob, and I tell him "Go feed the birds". So he goes and feeds the birds. Did he submit to me? Yes. He obeyed me. Now I'm going to Jack and I tell him "Go feed the birds". So he goes and shoots the birds instead. Did he submit to me? No. He did not obey me. So how can you say that Jack obeyed me if he did the complete opposite of what I told him to do?
So what if daesh calls themselves Muslims? The Munafiq also called themselves Muslims. You wanna know what the Quran says about the munafiq? Quran 2:8 - "And there are some people who say: We believe in Allah and the last day; and they are not at all believers" and Quran 63:1 - "When the hypocrites come to you, [O Muhammad], they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah ." And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars."
