Hello /r/Islam. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I am a Catholic Christian and was curious as to how much in fighting there is within the "Ahl al-Sunnah" people of Islam?
The Catholic Church, being the largest denomination of Christianity, is very large (1.2 billion people) and as a result there can sometimes be infighting because of our nations, and vast cultural differences etc. even within the orthodox Catholic sphere of thought.
For example in Catholicism there are many religious orders and philosophical schools that could be considered considered liberal (Jesuits) and some that could be considered "very orthodox" (Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter.) - and of course debate on some topics can turn very hostile.
So I was wondering if Sunni Muslims, being the largest denomination of Islam experience the same thing, and if so in what ways? I know that there are a few "branches" or "schools of thought" in Islam such as Salafi, Hanbali, Maliki, Shafi, Hanafi, Sufi.... do they fight over how the Salat must be performed? Over what's halal and haram? To what extent does inter-denominational fighting to go?
Curious to see what yalls replies are, and how religion of the same sect is argued in a different faith and culture from mine. Peace.
