Slavery in islam

As we all know, slavery is permitted under the prophet's orders and under the teachings of the Qu'ran.

*(if you disagree with this statement please go do your own research before commenting, you are factually incorrect)

Many Muslims I talk to say that these teachings were so:

  • the prophet could attempt to slowly abolish slavery

  • slaves would have a kinder more beneficial life than if otherwise not enslaved

  • that POWs weren't simply just executed or imprisoned without release

Based upon these claims I'd like to ask a few questions.

What if anything has the prophet done or said to attempt to prevent slavery happening after his death ?

When would slavery have been religiously abolished if at all ?

How did the rights of slaves change over the years after the prophet's revelation of these teachings on the ownership of slaves ?
