And it's not because I'm anti-islam, but I'm honestly concerned for their health.
We work heavy and dangerous manual labour and we employ a lot of Indonesians. Some of them came to me with the request to observe ramadan and I told them that no special arrangements would be made & that if they were unable to work as usual, we would send them home.
My reasoning was that we give them very generous contracts. They are able to support not only their own family but also the families of their cousins etc. In return, we employ them for 77 hours a week. They signed this contract and knew what the job entails. They knew that the contract continues through ramadan.
I've seen dangerous situations due to malnutrition and dehydration in the past. We operate very dangerous machinery. I told them I cannot afford to have casualties because they walk around like a bunch of zombies, after which they asked me if instead of the 77 hours they could work 40 hours instead.
I explained them that we have deadlines and that if they're unable to work the hours agreed upon in their contract, I would have to replace them with christians.
Isn't there a verse somewhere in the Quran that says that if they can't fast because they have to provide for their family, that they don't have to?
I believe a few of them are going to attempt to only drink water and not have food during the day. If I see them slacking or dazed , I won't have a choice but to terminate their contract and I really don't want that.
Can someone help me with some religious texts I can show them?
Edit: how is this handled in muslim countries?
