As salaamu alaykum, Brothers and Sisters :) I wrote some holiday songs to sing with my daughter, to help her be excited for Ramadan and Eid. They were a big hit with her, and so I'd like to share them with anyone who's interested, as there aren't many Ramadan songs for kids out there that are in English. It's also super fun to make a Ramadan drum out of an empty cardboard oatmeal canister or coffee tin, to bang along to the songs with. My daughter likes to get up for suhoor with us and play the drum to help us all wake up :) Hope you guys enjoy :)
- We All Go Marching (To the melody of "The Ants Go Marching")
We all go marching up the hill, Salaam! Salaam! To see the Ramadan moon, we will, insha'Allah! To see it shining oh so bright A silver crescent this holy night Marhaban ya Ramadan! And salaam To eeeeeveryone! Happ-y Happ-y Ra-ma-dan, Oh wel-come Ra-ma-dan!
- Eid ul Fitr (To the melody of "Frere Jacques") - A countdown song, Fill in the blanks with how many days are left until Eid :)
Eid ul Fitr, Eid ul Fitr, Where are you? Where are you? Just around the corner, Just around the corner _ days more, _ days more
Eid ul Fitr, Eid ul Fitr, Gold and green, Gold and green Everyone is singing, Bells are ring-a-linging, Eid Kareem! Eid Kareem!
- Eid ul Adha (To the melody of "Frere Jacques") - A countdown song, Fill in the blanks with how many days are left until Eid :)
Eid ul Adha, Eid ul Adha, Where are you? Where are you? Just around the corner, Just around the corner _ days more, _ days more
Eid ul Adha, Eid ul Adha, Now you're here, Now you're here Share with those in need and celebrate your blessings Spread good cheer, Spread good cheer!
- Alhamdulilah, It's Ramadan! (To the melody of "Wheels on the Bus")
Alhamdulilah it's Ramadan, Ramadan, Ramadan Alhamdulilah, it's Ramadan all month long! We'll only eat and drink from dusk til dawn, dusk til dawn, dusk til dawn To help us focus on Allah, all day long! We'll stay up late to read Quran, read Quran, read Quran Taraweeh will strengthen our imaan, all night long! We'll do good deeds and charity, charity, charity And ask Allah for His Mercy all month long! Alhamdulilah it's Ramadan, Ramadan, Ramadan And blessings abound in Ramadan all month long!
- Eid is Near (To the melody of "London Bridges")
Eid is near, Let's decorate, decorate, decorate When it's here we'll celebrate Eid ul Fitr! Hang the lanterns in a line, in a line, in a line When we light them, you'll know it's time for Eid ul Fitr! Drape the streamers across the wall, across the wall, across the wall Over shelves and down the hall for Eid ul Fitr! Tie balloons to every chair, every chair, every chair Throw confetti everywhere on Eid ul Fitr!
Happy Eid, it's here at last, here at last, here at last Everyone can break their fast, it's Eid ul Fitr! Happy Eid, it's time to pray, time to pray, time to pray With our brothers and sisters in faith, it's Eid ul Fitr! Happy Eid, Let's run and play, run and play, run and play All our friends are here today, it's Eid ul Fitr! Snack on sweets and tasty dates, tasty dates, tasty dates Everyone can fill their plates on Eid ul Fitr!
- Popcorn and Peanuts (To the melody of "Pop! Goes the Weasel") - A silly song inspired by two of my toddler's favourite foods
All throughout Ramadan, My mom gets really sleepy I like to help her out and eat POPcorn and peanuts! So she doesn't have to cook, and not because it's so tasty But I'll admit my favourite food is POPcorn and peanuts!
"Don't be silly, I'll make you some food," my mom, she tries to tell me. But that's okay, I already ate some POPcorn and peanuts! You just go and take a nap, I'll be fine, Believe me If I get hungry I'll snack on some more POPcorn and peanuts!
"I made some chicken and rice," she says. "You need to eat something healthy." Jazakallahu khayran, but I love POPcorn and peanuts! Popcorn comes from a vegetable and peanuts have lots of protein I'll try some chicken, but then I'd like some POPcorn and peanuts!
- Three Little Muslims (To the melody of "Five Little Ducks")
Three little Muslims waiting for iftar One is dreaming of a chocolate bar The second has his heart set on mac-n-cheese But the third little Muslim's sitting on his knees
Three little Muslims, time to break fast The first little Muslim says, "At last! At last!" The second little Muslim runs to fill his plate But the other makes duaa and has a nice, sweet date
Three little Muslims, past Ishaa time One so sleepy, into bed he climbs The second stays up late watching lots of tv But the other reads Quran and he prays Taraweeh
- Note: These last two songs, I posted last year and the majority response seemed to be a "nay" on them because the melodies I used for them came from Christmas songs. I used those melodies intentionally as a sort of way to help me transition and get some of the same feelings for the Islamic holidays that I once had as a child for my old holidays (I'm a convert). But I entirely understand anyone not wanting to use them because of their melodies. But I decided to include them in the list in case anyone feels the way I did or doesn't mind where the melodies came from. Also, while Jingle Bells is commonly associated with Christmas, I believe it's actually just a winter song. And all of the melodies used for the rest of the songs are just popular children's songs, non-religious. *
- Ramadan (To the melody of "Jingle Bells")
(verse) Early we wake up To have suhoor and pray Then we'll read Quran Remember God all day We break our fast at iftar On Eid, it is a feast With friends and family, lots of love And tasty things to eat! (chorus) Oh Ramadan, Ramadan, Ramadan is here! Praying, fasting, giving gifts and spreading lots of cheer! Oh Ramadan, Ramadan, Ramadan is here! Praying, fasting, giving gifts and spreading lots of cheer! (verse) To the mosque we go Dressed in colours bright To pray Maghrib with friends Then eat and laugh all night! Zakaat is charity We give what we can Food, money, clothes, or just kind words To help our fellow man! (chorus) Oh Ramadan, Ramadan, Ramadan is here! Praying, fasting, giving gifts and spreading lots of cheer! Oh Ramadan, Ramadan, Ramadan is here! Praying, fasting, giving gifts and spreading lots of cheer!
- We Made it to Eid ul Fitr (To the melody of "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer")
We made it to Eid ul Fitr After fasting all month long We made it to Eid ul Fitr What a blessed Ramadan!
Now it's time to celebrate, Alhamdulilah Friends and family all around Giving gifts all over town!
Happy, happy Eid ul Fitr And I'd like to say "Salaam!" Happy, happy Eid ul Fitr What a blessed Ramadan!
