What do y’all think of a travelling Ramadan or am I making things overly complicated?
I have 21 days off from work and was intending on just floating around and then spending my last ten days in itikaaf which can all be arranged no problems.
But what I’m thinking is getting some movement under my belt. I mean, I’m from the UK and you can get interrail passes that enable you to travel Europe on the trains. I’ve done this before (solo too albeit in a normal time of year and managed alright) and now I think it would be nice to do this In Ramadan too to see different things and pray in different mosques and that.
My only apprehensions are making my suhoor because not all hostels have 24 hour kitchens and I might be a bit of a headache finding mosques because sometimes google maps doesn’t list all of them. But like i said, I’ve travelled before and I managed, alhumdulillah. Insha’allah I can get a mix of hostels and finding mosques I can call ahead and sleep in but we’ll see. Sort of like a one man jamaat if you will.
If I can anticapate some questions:
Q: But brother, why you gonna make it a long ting for? Wouldn’t you rather be at home with your mother and brother?
A: well, I’m one of those kinda guys and inshallah all the duas of a traveler are accepted and if it’s Ramadan too I’m going for them combo points yo. Also my folks are ok, they’ll think I’m stupid but as long as my phone is on they’re ok I guess.
Q: won’t it be too hard? A: well I’m sure it’ll be tough but with suffering comes ease and traveling by train is super easy and so is cooking up some nice halal spaghooti once you get to the plot and with google maps and international data you can hardly go wrong.
Q: where will you go? Will you be safe? A: well. I’m thinking Holland, Belgium France, Spain and Portugal. But maybe down south will be too hot. So perhaps I’ll go to Germany instead of the last two. And I’m sure I will, travel light, don’t be an idiot and you’ll be ok.
Q: sounds good, if you come my way holla me for that masjid recommendations and if I can spare you some floor to sleep on and some morsels of food then then Insha’allah I will.
A: Jazkallah, that’s what I’m looking for, slide into my DMs but please keep it halal.
