As salāmu ´alaykum, I pray all your fasting is going well :)
I just want raise a concern I have had about this sub for a long time:
We have a stringent rule about needing a source for any rulings:
Do not give or imply any rulings. You can refer to and cite other rulings given by scholars.
And that is followed pretty well when someone makes a ridiculous claim without any backing up. And of course, for obvious points like pork being forbidden, no source is needed. All good so far; but so many other times, people post a single hadīth and then derive rulings from that.
Like this question about having suhoor after adhān. A hadīth was posted (no doubt with sincerity and good intentions, and this is just one example of many on this sub) that made it look fine to eat for some time after the Fajr adhān:
Narrated Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: If any of you hear the call for Fajr and in your hand is a vessel, don’t put it down until you finish taking what you need from it." (Sunnan Abu Dawud)
Pretty clear, right? Only, there were two adhān's during the time of RasulAllah ﷺ, and the above hadīth actually talked about only one of them. This isn't a scholarly nuance either, since two even more clear hadīths in Sahīh al-Bukharī explain this.
I have seen dozens of cases of this; a pretty specific and fine question is posted, a hadīth is given in the comments and a ruling is derived from it by us normal dudes. In that process, obvious things get left out. In trying to help, we become sinners; maybe not for our error, but in trying to help in ways which we (know we) are not qualified to.
By all means, if it's something obvious and there's a really eloquent hadīth about it, post that. If it's a detailed ruling, comment a source ruling and then put a snippet quote of a hadīth from which the ruling comes. But the problem is when you try to understand the fiqh of siyām using one hadīth you know from one book.
We easily call out and correct people who give rulings without qualifications; why are we allowing people to just post a hadīth, and then give rulings? It's the same thing, with a nicer layer on top.
