Warning on the Science Miracle claims youtube channel ‘ThereIsNoClash’ (feat. their video “Cosmic Calendar in holy Quran”)

I would like to warn everyone that you use caution in promoting the channel ThereIsNoClash (hearby TNC) as they are unwittingly (or intentionally) introducing errors into the Quran.

This might be a long post, but I don’t see another way to demonstrate how they are introducing non-existent errors into the Quran. If you just want to see the errors, just scroll down to the bullet points under “VIDEO ERRORS”.

So I have seen on this sub and elsewhere, the channel TNC, getting more popular. The majority of their videos are about claims of scientific foreknowledge in the Qur’an but they do it very differently from their predecessors. You see, we used to have to look at outdated Indian Man in a loose suit for these claims, but now we are blessed with White British Lady in tight pantsuit. In some circles, that still makes all the difference.

I had abandoned the science miracle claims and their (mis)understanding of the Quran many years ago. I was also happy to find out that many serious Muslim scholars and intellectuals have warned other Muslims against making these claims. I found the following quote on the topic to be the most pertinent,

"...Scientific knowledge is always in a state of flux and attempting to correlate verses of the Qur'an with modern science is in reality speaking about the intent of Allaah without knowledge, and amounts to lying upon Allaah, the exalted..." ~ Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan

Now on to TNC, the following is based on the comment I wrote in the exmuslim subreddit where I had to debunk one particular video of TNC. The video is titled “Cosmic Calendar in holy Quran”.

VIDEO SUMMARY.

  1. Carl Sagan introduced the learning tool of “The Cosmic Calendar”; age of universe is translated over a 1 year period. So 13.8 Billion years = 1 year. Thus, for example, if today is Dec 31 on the cosmic year, Earth was formed around 4 months ago.

  2. TNC claims the Quran introduced this learning tool first. The verses cited are 57:4 and 25:59 which mention creation of the heavens and the earth in 6 days. TNC claims, like Sagan, the Quran is translating the 13.8 billion history of the Universe into a 6 day period.

  3. TNC also claims the following using 41:10-12; that it predicts the ratio of the time before earth to that of the age of universe as 2/3 (that is 9 billion years before earth to 13.8 billion years of the universe). The ratio of 4 Quranic days to 6 Quranic days (41:10-12) is 2/3. And now with a sleight of hand, these two ratios are conflated

QURAN VERSES

  • Sura 57:4 - It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne.
  • Sura 25:59 - He who created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six days and then established Himself above the Throne.
  • (Note the presenter skipped verse 9) Sura 41:9-12 - Say, "Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth in two days and attribute to Him equals? That is the Lord of the worlds." And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures'] sustenance in four days without distinction - for [the information] of those who ask. Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly." And He completed them as seven heavens within two days and inspired in each heaven its command. And We adorned the nearest heaven with lamps and as protection. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

VIDEO ERRORS

Before I begin, it should be mentioned that the 6 day creation narrative is also found in the bible and given the framing of the video, omitting this fact shows a lack of integrity on the part of TNC

  1. TNC misrepresents the Quranic verses and goes against the tafsir given by the majority of Muslims. These verses refer to PAST EVENTS. Verses use past tense of verbs like Khalaqa (created) to describe these. We also find supporting material in hadith from Sahih Muslim and Tabari that detail the events of each day with the creation of Man on the 7-th day. Thus this 6 day period, regardless of whether each day was 24 hours, is already in the past. It is then incoherent to interpret the 6 days as spanning from Time 0 to present day.

  2. For the sake of argument, let’s assume that the 6 days do span from time 0 to the present; the video is still incoherent. For this claim of cosmic calendar to work; 2 pieces are necessary. We need a time period to compare (that is 6 days) and we also need the subject of the comparison (that is age of the universe). The latter piece is not something the Quran speaks about so it is once again incoherent and disingenuous to claim that the Qur’an introduced the cosmic calendar. If you still insist that this 6 day period refers to a cosmic calendar, then it is also fair game for critics to say statements like “Quran inefficiently or incompletely explains the cosmic calendar”. Why are these people making up errors and flaws in the Quran?

  3. Most dangerously, TNC does a sleight of hand with the display of graphics and images to claim that Quran (in 41:10-12) also represents the ratio of 'the time before earth' to 'the age of the universe' as 2/3, much like the actual scientifically accepted numbers. So what is the problem? The problem is that no honest reading of the verses will yield this ratio. In fact, it will yield unnecessary errors. Yes, as per the Quran in 41:9-12 (and also supporting hadith from Tabari, Sahih Muslim) The earth, and its mountains and living things, was created in 4 days, and after that, the sun, moon and stars were created in the next 2 days. The scientific interpretation imposed on these verses by TNC, when done consistently, will yield scientific errors like the age of earth equaling the age of the universe or worse claims like the earth being older than the sun etc.

Do you see the comedy here? These fools, in their attempt to make up miracles, actually made up errors in the Quran. Why do this? Such incompetence, especially when uncritically promoted, is a reason for non-muslims and exmuslims to abandon Islam. If you insist on looking for scientific validation or scientific interpretation of the Quran, then anyone who consistently uses that approach can easily find scientific errors in it as well. This is why many exmuslims officially left Islam; they grew up hearing about the miraculous scientific Quran from glossy videos by White British Lady and then all it takes to debunk them is to read the verses.

If you guys insist on spirituality/religion, a non-scientific paradigm, being scientific then don’t be surprised or blame anyone but yourself when scientifically minded folks abandon faith.
