Allah is letting Musa & Haroon (a.s.) here know that their supplication was indeed accepted, in regards to the destruction to Pharoah's reign and corruption. However, it was noted by commentator Al-Baghawi, that this Duaa' was answered over many years, which is sort of insane given that when we hear today the expression, "My Duaa' has been answered", it would mean in our minds that our wishes would come to fruition in a single instant.
But this is different, Allah is saying your supplication has been answered, but on His timeline, its coming at the right time where you will be ready for its unfolding. Given this context, it makes sense as to what follows. Allah instructs His prophets to remain firm in their mission, and to be careful of following the path of those that do not know. What is the relevance?
You see when we make Duaa', its very much possible that Allah responded with this Duaa' to come to existence, but not now, maybe later. Or much later. However, if we were to adopt the thoughts of those that do not know these divine mechanisms, we can fall into the trap of being ignorant and hasty.
We can fall into thinking, well its not here, I guess Allah didn't hear me, I guess all this khushoo' the last few years was for nothing. You lose motivation. You stop going to lectures, you stop listening to Quran as much. I mean what was the point? All I ever wanted was a woman to help me in my deen, all I ever wanted was to have this job and make good use of my earnings for your sake. But guess I am alone on this one. The consequences of this thought process is what leads one to lose that drive to be firm as he or she was once was.
Allah beautifully reminds you, just like I promised you that all your Duaa's will be perfectly responded to in due time and in perfect measure for exactly how you much need this thing that you are asking for, then respond appropriately to Me, by staying firm and away from the tactics and thought processes of those who do not know. We are more enlightened, and more aware that Allah is not one to forget or one to not hear than those people.
And so stay firm so when your day does come, you don't regret taking the backseat for Allah when He was just looking out for you all along, from the lens of a much bigger picture.
