I don't know to deal with this

Selamaleykum.

I was invited my Imam and another person to go to a Quran Reading contest + some sightseeing which was today.
My imam told me a day ago be to in front of the mosque at 11 am.
I went there at 11am and...no one was there.
I waited and wondered if they got late(we were going to go with one car).
I called my Imam and he said..."sorry we forgot you".
This broke my heart and I still feel overwhelmingly sad.
He apologized a lot and he also sounded very sorry.
I really wanted to go there and I was waiting for today since Friday.

I'm not holding a grudge against them or my Imam.
My point is:
I really look up to my Imam and I don't understand how someone can just forget another person.
I feel so much disappointment and that's the second time I was disappointed by him in a way.
I don't want to be mad at him,I don't want him to feel sad but...
How do you forget another person who you invited the day before?
How do I deal with this situation?
I get home and my mum asks:"Shouldn't you be at city X?"
This just hurt more and I obviously don't want to badmouth my Imam.

I forgive him but I still have this feeling in me and I don't think I will be able to shake that off for a long time...
How do I talk and react the next time I see him?
