When performing prayer can I essentially do a commentary on what I’m saying?

When I pray, I know the meaning of the Arabic words in terms of the translation. However I notice that if I just focus on that I don’t really have much heart in my prayer. However when I really think hard about the words mean (which essentially winds up becoming something like a short commentary on the verses), I do feel closer to Allah. However I’m not sure if this permissible since I’m essentially pausing my recitation of the surah. I do this in English since I’m not a native Arabic speaker.

To give an example let’s say I say “Rabbil al Aleem” which translates to Lord of All Worlds. Is it permissible to then think (and spend some time thinking about this) of let’s say our entire universe and the utter vastness of it since this encompasses the “all worlds” portion of the surah. And through thinking like this I feel closer to God since I realize the majesty of the universe comes from the majesty of the Lord. But nonetheless, Im not sure if it’s permissible since I’m pausing the Surah essentially and thinking about something that ties into the surah but it seems that I’m innovating on prayer.

Edit: To sum it up can I essentially do a tafsir after saying a verse? It helps me think about the meaning of these words. I can only do this in English since I’m not a native Arabic speaker.
