Through a lot of my experience, it seems like not eating pork is the most important part of being a Muslim for a lot of people. Some Muslims will drink alcohol, not pray 5 times a day, commit other sins like lying and etc, but god forbid that they eat pork. To me it seems like not eating pork is such a minor thing. If a Muslim were to say that they they eat pork, I wouldn’t think any less of them because it’s such a small and trivial part of being a Muslim. I would much rather look at the other ways they live their life when judging them.
I’ve had discussions with my Muslim friends about this and challenged them about why they think it’s okay to drink, but they wouldn’t dare eat pork. Or why it’s okay to be mean and rude to people, but not okay to eat pork. None of them have given me a good answer.
Maybe this has just been my experience and isn’t a generalization.
Can anyone give me some insight on how not eating pork became to be one of the most important aspects of being a Muslim.
