What is technically haram for men in "adornments"?

So based on what I know, it is obviously Haram for men to dress/act the way women do. This means that things like piercings and jewelry become haram. My question is: wouldn't all that vary from culture to culture and region to region? Like if the purpose of it being Haram is to avoid being like women, what would the ruling be for places where something may not be considered feminine, but rather for anyone? For example, henna and some jewelry is the Indian subcontinent has been traditionally used by men too, to a certain extent without it being seen as feminine, such as henna on the arms or during weddings, as well as some piercings. What about in the US, where ear piercings or rings and "masculine" bracelets (made out of fabric) and stuff aren't associated with women or just women? Is it not haram then for those places since it isn't imitating women?
