Hi, I recieved very positive responses from my questions last time so I decided to make it a habit!
For the first question, I would ask what would be the appropriate term for the founding prophet of Islam. I am not a muslim and I do not know what would be the appropriate term or honourifics to use to refer to this person, either to a muslim or non? I believe in discussion and coexistence which would be impossible if we were all being rude to each other!
The second question comes from a friend, he argues that with apostasy being a crime then not all who choose to follow Islam do so entirely out of faith. I disagree with him as to that, but I am deeply concerned with the situation of apostasy, does it not cheapen the act of submission?
He linked me this article https://www.rabwah.net/pakistani-court-orders-list-people-left-islam/amp/ I found it rather concerning, I personally struggle to justify a penalty for choosing a religion, if nothing else I would surely suffer it as an atheistic scholar? I have students who battle with their faiths in their own minds, I believe that is good, they are deciding on their faiths themselves, usually affirming it, which strikes me as far better in terms of a holy balance, a creator should prefer those who struggled with themselves and chose belief over those who believed in the rituals, so never questioned the presence of their own actual belief. I suppose I am meandering, my question could be distilled into: how is the punishment for apostasy justified, does it not risk people not having true faith, would a creator not prefer humanity to form belief in it, as opposed to belief in institutions, leaders and cultures?
Is it ever ok to hurt someone because they believe wrongly?
