Hey everyone!
I'm currently a student writing a research paper on apostasy in Islam. In order to supplement my research, I would love to have you all answer some questions I have about being a Muslim (your experiences, etc.) and about how Islam views apostasy. You can skip the questions that you're not comfortable answering. I just need a couple of people to lend me their insight and views on these questions. If you feel that I haven't addressed an important question, please don't hesitate to message me. Thanks!
Note: I'm also sending a similar list of questions to r/exmuslim to get a balanced understanding of this topic.
- What has your experience been like as a Muslim? Pros/Cons?
- Can you describe a moment where you knew for certain that Islam was it, and that you were proud to be a Muslim?
- For converts, what prompted you to convert to Islam?
- What is your view on people who were once Muslims leaving the religion? Why do you think they've left Islam? Do you think those reasons are justified?
- How do you think ex-Muslims perceive you?
- What is your current understanding of the punishment in Islam for apostasy? Any specific verses or sayings of the prophet that indicate what this punishment is? Do you agree with this punishment?
- What's the reasoning behind the rulings of apostasy in Islam? Are those reasons justified?
- Do you think it's possible for someone to safely leave Islam?
edit: I'm trying to make this paper as balanced as possible and I would really appreciate it if I got a couple of responses, please!
